writing club

A new on-line writing club will bring together writers working in isolation in many different countries.

Writing Club was launched on March 10, 2007 by the promoters of www.askabouutwriting.net the well-received resource website

On forming the writing club, Askaboutwriting was receiving more than 4,000 individual visits per week from writers or those who had an interest in writing.

"We see the function of the site as facilitating exchange of information and knowledge between members, as well as addressing that sense of aloneness that can plague a writer, whether the writer is busy or resting," said site administrator Brendan Nolan.

Experienced writers and beginners alike can benefit from a chat with their peers about their quiet passion for writing, he said.

"We hope that members will contribute freely. However little they write in comment on the Writing Club site will flex the writing instinct and should lead on to increased productivity in their own work," said Nolan.

He said professionals involved in the business side of writing would benefit from reading about the writer's point of view, a perspective that can be mislaid in the hurly burly of publication and marketing.

Several categories have been placed in the forum as seed gardens; but, as with all fine gardens the site will seek to propagate and nurture those areas of display while pruning areas showing little growth.

"We intend Writing Club to be alive and inclusive, and encourage all to join in," said Nolan.

Irish website rated amongst 101 best websites for writers.

writers digest may 06The Irish-based website for writers --- Askaboutwriting.net --- has been included in the prestigious Writer's Digest list of 101best websites for writers for 2006.

The ratings recognise the most valuable sites worthy of time and attention, according to the US-based Writer's Digest, publishers since 1921 of the must-have annual Writers Market listings.

Site founder Brendan Nolan said: "Our readers return each week to catch up with the news. We welcome everybody and anybody to the site, whether they are established writers, improvers, beginners or readers."

The judges said they:"Weeded through the options and found some great writing sites worth your time and attention."

More than 1,400 nominations were considered before the list was finalized.

Askaboutwriting.net is free to access and updates each Saturday with news of the world of writing. Upcoming competitions and writing opportunities are flagged and the site serves as a portal to more than 500 reviewed websites of interest to writers.

Started three years ago, askaboutwriting.net has a loyal following who are currently registering more than 3,500 individual visits every week.

Askaboutwriting.net recorded its highest-ever so-far one-day traffic on December 25, 2005 when readers made 1,956 individual visits to the writing news and resource site.

The same day in 2004 had seen less than 100 individual visits being made to the site.

Nolan expects the Writer's Digest listing to increase visits to the site once the list is officially posted in May.

============================================

31 January 2006

Almost 2,000 visits were made to a writing website on Christmas Day.

Askaboutwriting.net recorded its highest-ever so-far one-day traffic on December 25, 2005.

The same day in 2004 saw less than 100 individual visits being made to the site.

But, on Christmas Day 2005 readers made 1,956 individual visits to the writing news and resource site.

Site administrator Brendan Nolan said he could not account for the massive surge.

"Perhaps lots of readers got new computers or opted for broadband and logged on to see what they could see. Or maybe they were escaping family togetherness. Whatever the reason, they were not alone in their surfing," he said.

The site has been increasing in popularity since its launch in 2003 as a news and resource site.

"We update news of the world of writing every Saturday. That includes general writing news and, more importantly for some readers, we post news of competitions and opportunities as we receive them," said Nolan.

Constant updating draws readers back to the site every week and a free newsalert is emailed every Monday morning to a subscriber list.

Also available free of charge to visitors, is a constantly expanding database of reviewed websites from all over the world which currently stands at in excess of 500 reviewed sites.
