The
Pushkin Prizes commemorate writer Alexander Pushkin who died in 1837.
A charitable trust administers the prizes which draws entries from state
secondary schools in Scotland as well as from schools in and around Pushkin's
hometown of St Petersburg.
Students submit a folio containing three pieces of original writing -
prose, poetry, autobiography, fiction or journalism. The judges look for
original, imaginative writing in any genre.
Schools are invited to submit a maximum number of 20 folios per school
year.
Past winners' work is posted on the website for reference; as are tips
on how to approach the task.
Each winner receives a certificate and each school at which a winner is
a student receives a certificate. Winners also receive a selection of

The winners - including those from St Petersburg - are invited to attend

Centre near Inverness, where they are tutored by professional writers
