Edinburgh, UNESCO's first city of literature.

Edinburgh was designated as the first City of Literature by UNESCO in 2004.

This website seeks to build on this recognition to deliver clear benefits for the city and for Scotland, to promote the country through literature and to establish the city as an example for all the other cities of literature that follow, according to the site.

Posted on the site for all to see are pieces on:Scotland's contribution to world literature, the Scottish Enlightenment, Edinburgh as a centre of publishing, Scotland: a literate nation with a love for books, Scotland's unique languages and a city of remembrance and inspiration.

A news page carries updates of events in the literary life of the city.
