World Wide Words

This is a British site with a comprehensive database of words and their meanings. It was created and is maintained by webmaster Michael Quinion.

The site is divided into categories with one section featuring words that are relatively new and which may not yet reached the printed dictionaries.

Over the past seven years some 1,600 pieces have been added on language, according o an onsite declaration.

In any case, a complete site search facility is available to seek out words and their meaning.

A free newsletter is sent on Saturdays. Subscribers receive articles and updates a week before they are added to the website.

The newsletter is free. And there is a links section to other sites of interest to word seekers.
