Wikipedia

grinning manWikipedia is a free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit.

The English language version was started in 2001, and by mid 2005 there were some 679,088 articles posted on the site.

Wikipedia is a free-content encyclopedia written collaboratively by volunteers and sponsored by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation.

Its purpose is to create and distribute a free international encyclopedia in as many languages as possible.

Wikipedia receives some 60 million hits a day. Wikipedia's volunteers enforce a policy of "neutral point of view" whereby views presented without an attempt to determine an objective truth.

Because of its open nature, vandalism and inaccuracy are problems in Wikipedia so cross reference is essential.

However, it is an excellent starting point for research but can become addictive.
