Shooting People is run by filmmakers for filmmakers and was started in November 1998 by two filmmakers who realised that the most valuable information they’d gathered in their own filmaking was from other filmmakers!
And so Shooting People became an online network for filmmakers to exchange information and ideas. It launched with 60 filmmakers and by word of mouth has since grown to a membership of more than 31,000 in the UK.
In May 2002, Shooting People became self-sufficient. An optional £20 annual membership helps keep Shooters independent, and funds development of new services, says the organisation.
But the email newsletter service is free --- even if it is sent three days later to non-paying members than those who throw in twenty quid for a year’s service.
