The Royal Society of Literature The Royal Society of Literature is responsible for administering and awarding three literary prizes, the Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize; the Jerwood Awards for Non-Fiction and the V.S. Pritchett Memorial Prize. Details of the Society, and how to join or enter the competitions, are on the site. The Royal Society of Literature was founded by George IV in 1820 to reward literary merit and excite literary talent. Leading living writers are elected to its fellowship; lectures, readings and literary discussions are arranged, and the RSL has a record of campaigning on behalf of the writer and the written word. Lectures discussions and readings are organised through the year in central London.
