Under the UK's PLR Scheme authors receive payments for borrowing of their books from public libraries in the United Kingdom. Authors register their books with the PLR agency, and payments are made annually. In 2003, £6.2 million was paid out to 19,064 authors, compared to £4,505,758 paid to 17,581 authors in 2002.
