This Day is a BBC website. It functions as a showcase of significant or
quirkier stories broadcast by BBC News since 1950 but also including a
World War II section.
The landing page is the current day and offers a choice of reports drawn from the years 1950-2002 and 1939-45 for the date.
Nearly all the stories contain video or audio and are written as if the event has just occurred, drawing on archive media, old newspapers and historical reference books, said the BBC.
The site may be searched by date, by theme and by correspondent. A complementary section puts the story in context in terms of what happened next.
