isbn logoSelf-publishing writers and others will have an interest in this site which explains the book numbering system used internationally by sellers and libraries to identify individual titles.

The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a unique machine-readable identification number, which marks any book unmistakably. The number has been in use now for 30 years and has revolutionised the international book-trade.

Some 166 countries and territories are officially ISBN members.

Links are provided on the site to ISBN Group Agencies, cooperating institutions and other ISBN relating organisations

Frequently asked questions are answered on the system and its requirements.
