Irish
as a literature owed its origins to an oral tradition at whose centre
was verse or poetry.
This website features modern Irish poets and is updated quarterly and
is a part of a wider website with sections for some 20 other countries.
In
Gaelic society the qualified the file or poet held responsibility for
recording in verse the history and genealogy of the king’s family,
while also composing curse poems of the king’s enemies.
The modern administrators state they hope to present a key Irish language
poet and an English language poet as teh site progresses. Senior poets
as well as beginner poets will be featured.
An email newsletter is available on request, as is a poem of the week.
