Crime and Criminal Justice CSO

The Irish Central Statistics Office has formed a new division covering crime and criminal justice.

Its website said the principal role of the division will be to develop crime, victimisation and criminal justice statistics. The division will be involved in disseminating crime statistics including white-collar crime.

The division also compiles information on other aspects of the criminal justice system, including the courts and prisons.

Statistics from other sources already include the Garda Síochána; indictable/headline offences and murders recorded; robberies and aggravated burglaries .

Under Crime Statistics - An Garda Annual Report is included along with reports from the Chief State Solicitor's Office; the Courts Service - statistics section; the Health and Safety Authority; the National Crime Council; and the office of the Attorney General.

Enough material there for any crime writer to be going on with.
