If you
have prevaricated on starting a novel then November is the month for you.
Participants in the National Novel Writing Month begin, on November 1,
to write a 175-page 50,000-word novel, which is to be completed by midnight,
November 30.
NaNoWriMo is a US-based program open to writers from anywhere in the world.
The organisers freely admit that it's all about quantity, not quality.
In 2003, some 25,000 scribes entered the competition for which there is
a suggested entry fee of $10. More than 3,500 new novelists finished by
the midnight deadline, and all were declared winners. Winners receive
an official "Winner" web icon and certificate.
Sign-ups begin October 1. Writing begins November 1. Deadline is midnight
November 30 when entries are verified by robotic word counters.
