Cliché Finder

Hours of fun could be had from reading the list of clichés listed on this site even though its last update is listed as December 2000.

Still, a cliché is a cliché for all that and the webmaster offers definition of a cliché as being when he reads half of a sentence and asks if he then knows how the sentence will end.

A cliché is then when a reader knows how to end the sentence before reaching its conclusion.

And there are thousands of ‘em listed on the site. There are so many hackneyed phrases that it should be possible for a half-competent short story writer to draw inspiration for a new story from a well-recognised cliché by standing it on its head.
