Academi
is the operating name of Yr Academi Gymreig / The Welsh Academy, the Welsh
National Literature Promotion Agency and Society of Writers which exists
to promote the writers and literature of Wales.
The Academi runs the £5,000 Cardiff International Poetry Competition,
the £1,000 Rhys Davies Short Story Competition and conferences,
author tours, lectures, international exchanges, events, readings, literary
performances and festivals. The Academi administers the Wales Book of
the Year award.
Its
website is
a guide to literary activity in Wales and beyond and includes a database
of known writers, funding bodies, writers’ groups, publishers and
periodicals currently active in Wales. It lists poetry and story writing
competitions and details of opportunities for writers.
The
Academi
offers advice on getting published and publishing in general, as well
as providing information on the other literature bodies and organisations
in Wales which may be of interest.
