The Times Stephen Spender Prize for poetry in translation

Stephen Spender

Competitors for the Times Stephen Spender Prize for poetry in translation may translate a poem from any language, classical or modern, into English as their entry.

Three prizes are offered in the Open and 18-and-under categories.

Winners of the Open prizes will receive £1000, £750, or £500.

Each entry must comprise: the translation, the original poem, the translator's commentary.

Entries may be submitted by post or email, said the promoters.

Accompanying each entry or entries, the promoters require: one entry form and a payment of £5 sterling per entry.

Entrants must be British residents or British citizens.

In a statement, the Stephen Spender Trust encouraged submissions from children and adults who are British residents but who have roots in other countries.

Closing date for entries is June 1, 2012.
