A
writing competition celebrating the Dickens bicentenary offers guidance
to youngsters on how to begin the work of a writer.
The competition is open to primary and secondary school children in the
UK who are aged between 9 and 14 years.
Prizes include a Kindle ebook reader loaded with selected book titles,
or Amazon vouchers worth £100 or £50, plus prizes for schools,
including a visit from an author
A class visit to the Dickens Museum or £1,000 worth of books for
the school library is a prize.
No purchase or entry fee is necessary.
No theme is stipulated, instead the writers are encouraged to write their
own story.
The advice given by the promoters is to come up with characters, a setting
and a theme, before the writer starts writing and developing the plot.
