Enjoying
a book
World
Book Day celebrates its 13th year on March 4, 2010.
World Book Day is now firmly established as the biggest annual event promoting
the enjoyment of books and reading in Ireland and the UK.
BookCrossing is a new partner this year. BookCrossing is a community
of more than 800,000 people, in more than 130 countries who pass on books
they have read for free to anyone who cares to pick it up.
Read to a Million Kids, another initiative for World Book day is sponsored
by Renaissance Learning. Eleven €1.50 book stories will be read by
the authors or performers and filmed for online broadcast during World
Book Day.
In Dublin, the Irish Writers’ Centre celebrates World Book Day with
literary events and activities. Senator David Norris’ will present
his highly acclaimed Joycean One Man Show, commencing at 8pm. This performance
is open to the public free of charge.
In Celbridge, Co Kildare, Askaboutwriting founder Brendan Nolan
will tell adapted stories from his book Barking Mad: Tales of Liars,
lovers, Loonies and Layabouts to pupils in Scoil na Mainstreach on
March 3, 2010.
