Children’s Laureate for Ireland
Ireland
may soon have its own Children’s Laureate.
The position will be awarded to an established and dynamic children's
writer or illustrator and the position will be held for a period of two
years, according to the promoters.
The laureate, in partnership with a steering committee, will develop the
focus of their two-year term. The project aims to introduce high quality
children's literature to a new audience of adults, children and young
people
It will also seek to raise the profile of children's literature in Ireland
and bring children's literature into the mainstream conversation about
books and literature in Ireland.
A Laureate to be appointed must be deemed to hold an internationally recognised
body of high quality children's writing and/or illustration.
The Laureate must be deemed to have made a particularly significant contribution
to the field of children's literature in Ireland and have had a considerably
positive impact on readers as well as other writers and illustrators.
The recipient of the first Children's Laureate will be announced on May
13th 2010.
Closing date for nominations is March 19,
2010.
