BBC
reporters to become more social
Social
media has received the imprimatur of the BBC.
The new director of BBC Global News Peter Horrocks, last week told the
Corporation’s news journalists to use social media as a primary
source of information.
In doing so, he is recognising the fact that many journalists are already
monitoring Twitter and Facebook and LinkedIn and all sorts of online communications
for breaking news.
Horrocks said it was important for editorial staff to make better use
of social media and become more collaborative in producing stories.
Technology is changing journalism, he said.
For BBC news editors, Twitter and RSS readers are to become essential
tools, said the director.
BBC's journalists have to listen to feedback for a better understanding
of how the audience is relating to the BBC brand, he said.
