Manchester
Cathedral Interfaith Religious Poetry Competition
Entries
are invited to the 12th International Religious Poetry Competition in
Manchester.
The winner of the First Prize will be designated The Manchester Cathedral
Poet of the Year.
Otherwise, prizes are: £400, £200, or £100.
Entry fee is £4 for the first poem and £2 50 each for others
Submitted poems of no more than 40 lines each should be broadly religious,
that is, spiritual in nature and, like all good religious poetry, appeal
to those who would not necessarily describe themselves as such, said the
organisers.
The competition is open to everyone. Religious includes poems that are
Christian, as well as those from within other faith traditions. Those
struggling to discover their own sense of the sacred are also invited
to submit entries.
Poems are welcome in any style or form and will be judged solely on their
merits as poetry.
Poems submitted must not have appeared on a website, been published, broadcast
or awaiting the decision of any publisher or competition.
Post entries to The Religious Poetry Competition, Manchester Cathedral,
Victoria Street, Manchester, M3 1SX.
The Cathedral Chapter will assume the right to use prize-winning poetry
in connection with services, events, displays and publications arranged
by the Cathedral, though copyright remains with the author.
The prize winning poems will be read and prizes presented at a special
event at the cathedral, part of the Manchester Literature Festival, on
October 21, 2010.
Any profits from the competition go towards the work of the Cathedral’s
Booth Drop-In Centre for the Homeless.
Closing date for entries is June 30, 2010
