Kavli
Science Journalism Awards
Entries
are being accepted for the 2009 AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards.
The awards for each category are $3,000.
The American Association for the Advancement of Science will cover travel
and lodging expenses for one winner in each category.
The 2009 contest year is July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009
The awards recognize outstanding reporting for a general audience. They
honour individuals, rather than institutions, publishers or employers,
for their coverage of the sciences, engineering and mathematics, said
the promoters.
Committees composed of reporters, editors and scientists screen and judge
the entries.
Independent screening and judging committees select the winning journalists
and their entries based on scientific accuracy, initiative, originality,
clarity of interpretation and value in fostering a better understanding
of science by the public.
The awards will be presented at the AAAS Annual Meeting in San Diego in
February 2010.
Founded in 1848, AAAS serves some 272 affiliated societies and academies
of science and publishes the general science journal Science. The non-profit
AAAS is open to all
All entries must be postmarked on or before midnight of August
1, 2009.
