The Mysteries of Durham
There
are plans to restage the Durham Mysteries in spring 2010, with a new cycle
comprising ten specially commissioned playlets.
Durham was home to a yearly performance of the great retelling of biblical
stories as part of the Mystery Plays, regularly performed in front of
the cathedral from the Middle Ages.
The Durham Mysteries will be 10 individual interpretations, by 10 writers/creative
practitioners, using one of the original biblical stories as the starting
point for their own creative adventure. It is also acceptable for writers
to base their piece of work on some other starting point, as long as it
is specific to Durham and its faith-based heritage, said the promoter
All writers will receive the same fee, and terms and conditions, which
will be based on, or slightly above industry standards, said the promoter,
though this is not detailed in the promotional material..
Closing date for entries is June 30, 2009.
