No citizen journalism on the world

man radioThe BBC World Service has ended Your Story its citizen journalism project.

The service invited participants around the world to submit ideas for stories and news reports.

Individuals were provided with recording equipment, training and advice.

Citizen journalists sent in photos or video footage if they found themselves in the right place at the right time, as a news story was unfolding.

Or, the BBC supplied suitable applicants with a recorder so they could conduct interviews and record thoughts and opinions.

Results were published online, and broadcast on the World Service.

However, funding priorities saw the end of the plan after a twelve-month trial.

Its demise is announced on the website.
