Richard & Judy ends for now
The
influential Richard & Judy chatshow is to be dropped from digital
television in the UK, from July.
Some three million people watched the show when it was on Channel 4; but
a move to the new digital channel Watch in October 2008 saw viewer figures
fall from an initial 100,000 to as low as a reported 8,000, before being
cancelled ahead of its contracted conclusion.
The ending of the show puts the future of the Richard & Judy Book
Club into question since there will be no TV show to underscore the club’s
selection of books.
However, talks are said to be under way with other media partners about
how the hugely successful book club might continue.
