Writers reading in Dublin
The
Irish Writers' Centre is launching a series of writing weeks in a continuing
effort to re-position the centre The Dublin city centre faced a survival
challenge when the Arts Council unexpectedly dropped its grant to the
centre.
The weeks are designed to offer the chance to participate in creative
writing courses, seminars, literary events and workshops. The weeks will
also offer the chance for participants to meet authors, discuss literary
matters with leading industry professionals, meet the centre's creative
writing facilitators and staff.
The first writing weeks takes place between from May 18 to May 22, 2009.
It will include the Togra na Bealtaine in Áras na Scríbhneóiri
/ Bealtaine Project at the Writers' Centre with Jack Harte and Nuala Ní
Dhomhnaill. Creative Writing Workshop with Emer Martin; Crimefest, a course
on writing crime fiction with Shelia Barrett and Self Publishing, a two
evening workshop with Roslyn Fuller.
Professionals day on Thursday May 21 will see industry professionals talks
on copyright, public lending rights and the Google book settlement; a
talk on the Irish Writers' Union and the future of the Irish Writers'
Centre.
Other events include; a lunchtime workshop, Scribblers' Corner; a reading
by author and creative writing tutor Juliet Bressan; a lunchtime reading
by poet and winner of the Fish Poetry Prize 2009, Jean O'Brien; a reading
by poet Helen Dwyer, storytelling by Brendan Nolan
and the first of the Poetry Ireland Introductions series with Mark Baker,
Olive Broderick, Jane Clarke and Miceál Kearney.
