Who
lived where in 1911
In
just two years time the centenary of 1911 will be noted with new books
and programmes.
The authorities in both Ireland and the UK have opened online access to
the 1911 census returns.
For the first time, householders - rather than official census takers
- filled in their own census returns.
The returns may be searched by address, to discover who lived in a particular
house at that time, or by name.
Not all counties are digitised and available online In Ireland, for the
moment, , but work continues apace on uploading all 32 counties on the
island. Ireland was a single administrative unit within the UK until 1922
when 26 counties became the Irish Free State and the six counties of Fermanagh,
Antrim, Tyrone, Down, Armagh, and Derry remained in the UK.
The British version allows limited free access, after which you will be
charged to access further information.
Most of the English counties are already available, with the rest of the
census (including Wales) due out soon.
