Manchester Cathedral Religious
Poetry Competition
A
first prize of £350 is offered in the 2009 Manchester Cathedral
Religious Poetry Competition
First prize winner will also be designated as The Manchester Cathedral
Poet of the Year, 2009. Second prize is £175 and third prize is
£100.
Entry fee is £4 for the first poem and £2 50 each for others.
Poems submitted should be broadly religious; which is described as spiritual
in nature and, like all good religious poetry, should appeal to those
who would not necessarily describe themselves as such.
Listowel-born John McAuliffe is the judge for 2009.
The author’s identity or contact details must not appear on any
poem but be supplied on a separate cover sheet.
The competition is open to everyone. Poems should have no more than 40
lines each, not including the title. Entries must be in English and the
original work of the entrant. Competitors may enter as many poems as they
wish.
Poems submitted must not have been previously have appeared on a website,
been published, broadcast or awaiting the decision of any publisher or
competition.

Closing date for entries is June 29, 2009.
The prize winning poem will be printed in the Cathedral Newsletter for
November 2009, and all three poems, with any runners up, in a competition
booklet.
