Arise Sir Terry the Writer

Terry PratchettAuthor Terry Pratchett is to receive a knighthood from the Queen of England for his services to literature. The writer has sold more than 60 million copies of his books and has been translated into 37 languages..

The fantasy author makes up a quarter of the books on a perennially selling list with titles from his Discworld series.

A BookScan research of 1.8 million titles revealed that just a dozen titles appeared in the top 5,000 selling books every week for the last decade. Terry Pratchett wrote four of them.

The writer announced a year ago that he was suffering from the onset of early Alzheimer’s disease but said he would continue writing. He has since campaigned on Alzheimer issues.

In November, he lobbied Prime Minister Gordon Brown MP in person to increase funding for dementia research.

Terry Pratchett was born in April 1948. His short story The Hades Business was published in his school magazine when he was 13 and was first published commercially two years later.

His first Discworld book, The Colour of Magic, was published in 1983 while the latest and 36th addition to the series, Making Money, was published in the UK in hardback by Doubleday in September 2007.
