Children’s
book festival matures
The
Children’s Book Festival has reached its 18th year in Ireland.
Some 1,500 events are scheduled to take place at various venues.
The Festival has established itself as a major focus for the children’s
books community in Ireland, and is the largest cultural event of its kind
in the country.
This year’s festival has been extended to cover the whole of October,
right up to Hallowe’en.
Tom Donegan, CBI programme officer, said: “Last year's festival
was the most successful yet, with some 60,000 young people attending over
1,500 events. Our target for this October is to broaden the scope of the
Festival still further."
The Festival will start on October 1 when Skulduggery Pleasant creator
Derek Landy will kick things off in scary style at a special launch event
at the Liberty Hall Theatre in Dublin.
Children will be invited to attend the launch dressed as their favourite
Skulduggery character, with a prize for the best costume.
