First Environmental Literary Award Launched

A major new book award has been launched to celebrate the life and writing of Scotland’s Robin Jenkins.

The Robin Jenkins Literary Award offers a £5,000 prize for a work of either fiction or non fiction, which should not exceed 100,000 words in length.

The award seeks to promote new Scottish writing that draws and builds on Scotland’s cultural heritage using Scotland’s unique environmental assets, in particular trees and forestry, as key elements in submissions, said the promoters.

Each entry must be: either an unpublished manuscript or published book submitted as one hardcopy and one digital copy, if previously unpublished, and as four book copies if already published.

Entries must be accompanied by a two-page A4 synopsis and biography of the author.

Closing date for entries is March 31, 2009.
