A first novel for £30,000
The
winner of the Daily Mail First Novel competition will receive
£30,000 and a publishing deal with Transworld Publishers.
This competition is open to anyone aged 16 years or more who is a resident
of the UK or Republic of Ireland.
The publisher will offer the winning entrant a publishing contract with
Transworld Publishers, a division of The Random House Group Limited, and
an advance in the sum of £30,000. The publishers will publish the
winning work in the spring of 2009.
Submit a complete work in the English language of not less than 80,000
words and no more than 150,000 words and a synopsis of the work of no
more than 600 words.
A valid entry must include the entrant's full name and contact details
and be submitted as a hard copy with double spacing in 12 point Times
New Roman.
All entries must be original, previously unpublished works of fiction
on any subject or genre, including but not limited to romance, crime,
science fiction, adventure, and thriller.
Entrants must not have written a novel published under a valid ISBN.
Entrants may submit any number of entries but only one prize will be awarded
per entrant. The Publisher will contact six shortlisted entrants from
which a winner will be selected.
The competition will be judged within three months of the closing date
and the winning entrant will be notified by post within four months of
the closing date.
The winning entrant agrees to the publisher's use of their name, country
of residence and photograph in relation to the publisher's publicity material
and activities.
