Kenneth Grahame Short Story Competition

As part of the Kenneth Grahame Society's celebration of the centenary year of The Wind in the Willows, a short story competition is being held to echo Grahame's classic work.
Writers everywhere are invited to write a short story in the same style as The Wind in the Willows and have it published.

Prizes: £500, £150 or £100.

If there is a good response and sufficient strong entries, a number of further entries, along with the top three, will be published in a collection of short stories at the end of the year. These entries will be awarded a £50 prize and a copy of the book.

There is no entry fee.

No theme is set; but the story is to be written as a sequel, prequel or countertext to The Wind in the Willows.

Stories should be about 5,000 words - similar to the average length of the chapters in The Wind in the Willows.

The cover page should clearly state the title and number of words, and provide essential contact details - name, address, email address and phone number.

Entries will be judged for their plausibility and continuity as a Willows follow-on.

The winning entry will be announced and read at the Kenneth Grahame Society's Willows celebrations in Fowey, Cornwall, on September 6th-7th 2008.

Post: Nigel McMorris, Kenneth Grahame Society, 37 Ashtree Hill, Tandragee ,Co Armagh, Northern Ireland BT62 2HP.

Closing date is July 31, 2008.
