Niamh Sharkey is Ireland's second-ever Laureate
na nÓg the laureate for children’s literature. President
Michael D. Higgins presented author and illustrator Niamh Sharkey
with the Laureate na nÓg medal at a special event celebrating
her appointment.
Niamh Sharkey is an author and illustrator of children’s picture
books, which have been translated into more than twenty languages.
Her books won numerous awards including the Mother Goose Award and
the Bisto Book of the Year. more

Student
writers could win £1,000, and a trip to the Norman Mailer
Writer's Colony in Provincetown, Massachusetts and the chance
to have work published in British GQ.
The winner of the British GQ Norman Mailer Student Writing
Award 2012 will receive £1,000 cash prize, have their
work published in a future issue of British GQ and be invited
to spend a month at the Norman Mailer Writers Colony. All
travel, accommodation and expenses will be covered, said the

is sixth UNESCO City of Literature
The
City of Norwich has become the latest UNESCO City of Literature,
joining an elite international network of Dublin, Edinburgh, Melbourne,
Iowa City, and Reykjavik. The City of Literature status is designated
through UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network to harness the
creativity of cities by sharing ideas and best practice for artistic,
social and economic development through culture. more
