Plays are to be filled again
The
2012 Pint-sized Plays international writing competition for short
plays is open for entries.
The winner receives a Pint-Pot award - with a Half-Pint award given
to the runner up.
Selected plays will be considered for possible performance in the
Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe festivals and be recorded and broadcast
as radio plays on an internet radio station.
Such
plays last for five or ten minutes each.
The play can be funny, it can be poignant, so long as it can be
performed in a pub, with two or three characters. more
Dickens
story competition encourages new writers
A writing competition celebrating the Dickens bicentenary
offers guidance to youngsters on how to begin the work of
a writer. The competition is open to primary and secondary
school children in the UK who are aged between 9 and 14 years.
Prizes include a Kindle ebook reader loaded with selected
book titles, or Amazon vouchers worth £100 or £50,
plus prizes for schools, including a visit from an author.

Burland poetry prize
Entries will be accepted for the David Burland poetry prize
from writers of any nationality and from any country provided
that they are written in the English or French Language and
the writer is aged more than 18 years. Prizes: £500,
£100 or £30. Entry fees are: £8 for a first
poem and £4 for additional poems. Submissions may be
on any subject and written in free style or rhyme. more

The Well - Short Story Competition 2012
Cork
County Library and Arts Service is accepting entries to its
2012 From The Well Short Story competition. The winning prize
will be a place on a week-long writing workshop at the West
Cork Literary festival 2012, in Bantry, Co Cork. The competition
is open to people aged 18 years or more who are registered
library members. Stories must be fictional; but may be on
any subject; but must not be more than 2,000 words. No handwritten
entries will be accepted. more
Poetry consultant offers newsletter to interested parties
Recently appointed Poetry Consultant for
the MA in Poetry Studies at Mater Dei Institute in Dublin Dave
Lordan has announced he will distribute a regular newsletter on
his progress. His brief is to develop practice-based resources
for the teaching of the reading, writing and performing of poetry/creative
writing in schools, and in community education more generally,
said Lordan. more

Times Stephen Spender Prize for poetry in translation
Competitors
for the Times Stephen Spender Prize for poetry in translation
may translate a poem from any language, classical or modern, into
English as their entry. Three prizes are offered in the Open and
18-and-under categories. Winners of the Open prizes will receive
£1000, £750, or £500. Each entry must comprise:
the translation, the original poem, the translator's commentary.

Write a story and win €100
The current CheerReader quarterly competition offers a prize of
€100.
Maximum length for stories is 1,500 words. The theme may be on
anything you like, so long as it makes people laugh. Entrants
must be aged 18 years or more. more
